The National Lake Route Kansallisvesi
- Finnish National Water
The National Lake Route Kansallisvesi in Rautalampi area belongs to the
Finnish Lake District, the area of the Thousand Lakes. The lake route
is one of the longest water routes in Finland, over 400 km from the southern
towns Lahti and Heinola to the northernmost village Pielavesi. These internet
pages give you information about the northern part of the route belonging
to North Savo Province. More information about the are you'll find www.kuopioinfo.fi/english
The northern lakes of
the lake route are clean, clear, and many of them are famous for fishing.
Here there are plenty of regions where you seldom hear cars or see other
human beings. Most villages are situated by a lake, and most people in
the area fish themselves. Local menus usually include many delicious ways
of preparing fresh fish. You can try it by yourself, too, since each holiday
cottage has its own rowing boat, a few rods and hooks, and probably also
other equipment for fishing and preparing fish.

Finland in virtual.finland.fi.
The abundance of fish
is waiting for you in the foaming rapids and clean, clear lakes. All the
summer cottages in the area have at least a rowing boat. It is also possible
to rent a motor boat, the services of a fishing guide, and equipment.
In winter try fishing through the ice!
For river fishing there
are Laampaanjoki River in Pielavesi, Konnekoski and Nokisenkoski Rapids
in Rautalampi and Suonenjoki River in Suonenjoki. And of course there
is The Lohimaa Nature and Fishing Centre by the Äyskoski Rapids in
Tervo - a perfect place for those who want a full service.
The best times of the
year for fishing are Spring, early Summer, and Autumn. The lakes have
e.g. pike, pikeperch, perch, whitefish, roach, vendace, and even eel.
In the rivers you can get e.g. brown trout.
